View of FluidstripTM Paint Stripping Furnace Systems |
The FluidstripTM fluidised bed furnace uses a combustible mixture of air and gas to fluidise a bed of sand. The air/gas mixture is ignited at the surface of the bed by a pilot flame. The bed heats up to a temperature of 500oC through "internal combustion".
Parts are then lowered into the FluidstripTM in baskets. The paint coated parts undergo pyrolysis once in the bed, and the paint decomposes with heat. The waste gases are burned when they reach the surface.
The time to remove coatings varies with coating thickness. Typically, the average time is between 10 and 15 minutes. The scrubbing action of the sand produces a much cleaner result than "burn-off" ovens or chemical stripping, where residual flecks of burnt paint are often found, especially in corners of intersections of the wire frames and jigs.

View of basket being loaded into furnace |
The FluidstripTM fluidised bed paint stripping furnace system comprises the furnace itself, a water quench tank, plus materials handling system to move loads from unit to unit.
The furnace features a corrugated metal retort to hold the fluidising sand. In the base is an air/gas distribution system. The distributor is supplied with air and gas from the combustion system, installed behind the unit.
Surrounding the retort is an insulated casing. Above the retort is a large insulated hood with a front opening door. Exhaust gases pass through two filters and an oxide drop-out box before entering the exhaust stack.
The pneumatically operated materials handling system lifts special work baskets from unit to unit. The special feature of this system is that baskets can be disengaged from the materials handling system, allowing two loads to be "in progress
