Thermal Sand Reclamation

Diagram of Fluidsand
FLUIDSAND

The Fluidsand fluidised bed by QHT consists of a retort filled with foundry sand.  Fluidisation occurs when a mixture of air and gas is passed through a distribution system in the base of the retort.  This causes the particles of sand to separate and fluidise.  The mixture of air and gas is ignited by pilot burners and the bed heats by internal combustion.

Sand to be reclaimed is fed directly into the bed, immediately burning the binders as it enters.  The internal gas firing of the bed leads to optimum efficiency and heat transfer.  Secondary air injection above the bed further improves energy efficiency.  Sand exits the bed under gravity at the same rate at which it enters.
