Originating as Gas Combustion & Design Pty Ltd in 1969, the business of GCD International Pty Ltd has always focused on the design, manufacture and project management of thermal process based systems, plant and equipment.
Growth has been consistently strong with the company developing these strategic aims:
In-house design to maximise added value to customers.
In-house manufacturing capability.
Provision of engineering services and project management.
Penetration of World markets.
Specialisation within a number of key industries.
These aims have resulted in:
A company structure with engineering design as a central focus - greater than 50% of employee numbers are comprised of qualified engineers or technical staff. Engineering disciplines include combustion, mechanical, electrical and project management. The company also has a substantial in-house drafting capability.
A manufacturing facility occupying some 4,500 m2, with details as shown below.
Substantial export sales of multi-million dollar turnkey production plant. GCD International has supplied and commissioned such plants in Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, China, The Philippines, India, New Zealand and Brazil.
Prominence as a designer and manufacturer in various process industries: primary production of aluminium and steel, the fibreglass industry, the automotive industry, the food industry and the chemical industry.
GCD has developed product specialisations in:
Fibreglass insulation production plant.
These major projects, comprising extremely large modular constructions of curing oven, conveyor systems, air and vacuum ducting, laminating and cutting equipment, afterburner, wet scrubbers, etc. have helped GCD International to expand its activities and influence around the world and have underpinned the company's investments in staffing levels, manufacturing resources and buildings.
Fibreglass - chopped strand mat.
Major projects for the design and construction of chopped strand mat manufacturing equipment including doff conveyors, chopping, forming, powder and emulsion applicators, wet scrubbers, curing ovens, materials handling equipment including side-trim and cut-off, belt cleaning, process control, and instrumentation and electrics.
Thermal Oxidisers for gaseous and liquid waste destruction with and without recuperation and heat recovery systems.
Pot Bakeout.
A gas fired cathode preheating mobile station co-developed with Comalco, Bell Bay. Units have been sold to NZAS, Alcoa Point Henry, Portland Smelters, Alumar & CBA in Brazil. Interest has been expressed from other smelters in USA, Canada and Germany.
Ovens and Furnaces.
Homogenising ovens, curing ovens, heat treatment furnaces, drying furnaces and many similar units are regular items to be seen at any time in the GCD factory. Batch and continuous ovens complete with complex conveyor systems are equally familiar to us. In many instances, particularly in the case of combined thermal and materials handling systems, PLC hardware and programs are incorporated in the design.
Large Burner and Process Air Heating Systems.
The GCD/Urquhart/Bloom names are recognised around the world as leading the combustion field, particularly in the metals and chemical processing industries.
Mechanical handling equipment such as siphon reaming machines for the aluminium industry.
GCD International currently employs 80 people at its Knoxfield operation. This one centre has been responsible for providing project teams to operate in every overseas location. The company's standard procedure is to appoint one senior project engineer as Project Manager. This person is our client's normal point of contact and is accountable for all aspects of the contract performance.
The company's technical expertise is based at the Knoxfield facility, however, it is important to realise that GCD International has been part of a world group of thermal process companies since 1986. The Sterling Industries Group, based in the United Kingdom, fully owns the following companies:
GCD International Pty Ltd, Australia.
Urquhart Engineering combined with Thermo to become Sterling Process Engineering Limited, UK.
Bloom Engineering, USA, France, Italy and Germany.
Process Combustion Corporation, USA.
Fans & Blowers, UK.
CCT (refinery burners), UK.
GCD International has, therefore, grown to be:
A sophisticated engineering company operating internationally.
A substantial exporter of thermal process plant and equipment.
A manufacturer of repute in the combustion field, with impressive in-house design and project management personnel resources.
A winner of various awards for export achievement.
A partner to several world-wide corporations, such as Comalco, in the development of combustion-based process plant.
A main supplier of ovens and furnaces in Australia and nearby regions.
A company with the financial and technical strength to fully stand by each and every project from design concept to obtaining total customer satisfaction at commissioning and for the life of the plant.
